Day 9 | Read the Bible Daily

Today’s Scripture:

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.” - Colossians 3:16

Today’s Thought:

Throughout this 21 Day Spiritual Journey, we have asked you to spend one minute in prayer and to read one bible verse. Has this been an easy task? Has it been difficult? One way to grow spiritually is to spend time reading the Bible daily. But we know this already, don’t we? We need to read it, meditate on it, study it, learn from it, write it out, speak it out loud, and teach it to your children. We need God’s Word every day, living and breathing through us. It’s our guide in this life, it’s alive and active, it’s powerful and true.

In our scripture today, it states, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” God’s word is to “dwell in our hearts” and “it is the engrafted word.” “Engrafted” comes from the root word graft which means to insert or fix something permanently to something else. God wants the words from the Bible to fix themselves to our hearts. God’s Word is going to make a dwelling place in your heart - God’s Word is going to live within your heart. That being said, you need to remember to spend time with God each day.

There are many different ways to do this: read short passages, read through longer sections or entire chapters, use a year plan to read the whole Bible or a devotional, or join a bible study group. There are so many ways to incorporate reading into your life. Will you make it a priority? What will be your method? Will you continue reading your Bible after these 21 days?

Today’s Prayer:

Let us pray.

Lord, we lift up our lives to you knowing that we need you in every part of our life. We need you as we continue to grow in your word, in your service, in your hope of how we can love our neighbors each and every day. Lord, we pray that you would help us to put your Word into our daily routine. We know that we don’t always make you a priority. Help us to do that by reading and studying your Word. Today, we give our lives to you. Grow us faithfully to love as you do, unconditionally and always with hope in what is to come! We lift this prayer to you, and all God's People Said, AMEN.
