Day 5 | Pray Face Down

Today’s Thought:

Praying with one’s face to the ground typically symbolizes a desperate plea, an urgent request, or to express to God complete and utter dependence. Have you ever been out of options? This is the time we find ourselves flat on our face and crying out to the Lord, “Save me!”

We see Jesus fall on his face to pray in Matthew 26:39 just hours before His crucifixion. First, Jesus knelt in prayer then in the fervency of His prayer and the depth of His sorrow, Jesus fell with His face on the ground, denoting the deepest anguish and the most earnest entreaty. During this prayer Jesus offers His supplication, but accepts God’s will.

Prone positioned prayers are also used for intercessory prayers, these are typically urgent prayers in themselves. When we find ourselves grieving over a loved one or need to stand in the gap for another, these are usually prayers of urgency and desperation.

Have you ever fallen to your knees offering your prayers of supplication to God? Do you accept God’s will at the end of those prayers? Do you pray on your knees often? Or just in desperation?
