Today’s Thought:

While you pray, does your mind wonder? Do you refer to a prayer journal? Do you pray at the same time in the same way each day? Do you have a format? Here is a prayer format that you can use during the next 21 day–using P.R.A.Y. as the acronym.

  • Praise - When we begin our prayer, it’s important to address God in a way that draws our attention to God. If we were to be in God’s presence, we would likely kneel or bow and thank God. How will you begin your prayer time with praise for what God has done.

  • Repent - We are imperfect and we sin. After our praises, ask for forgiveness for the wrongs we’ve done. This isn’t time to feel guilt, rather it’s an opportunity to thank God for giving His life for our sins. How will you reflect and repent since the last time you prayed?

  • Ask - God teaches us “ask and you shall receive”. Our requests are common in prayer. We often pray for ourselves, family, and close friends. Also we pray for larger issues such as our city, state, and country. What asks do you have for God–no matter how big or small?

  • Yield - Yield refers to being patient and waiting on the Lord. We pray and God hears us. In our busy lives we can be impatient, and we may wonder why God hasn’t answered us. Don’t forget that God’s timing is perfect and answers every prayer with either yes, no, or wait. How will you yield? Is yielding easy or difficult? What will you do to remember God is control?
